Recal Foundation

In Poland the environmental trust fund "Recal" was set up at the instigation of Ball Packaging Europe (at the time Schmalbach-Lubeca / Continental Can Polska) and others in 1995.

Several other European beverage can producers and aluminium suppliers are also amongst the founder members. Aim of the organisation is to promote environment education as well as the recycling of beverage cans. The Recal trust fund informs schools about the recycling of the resource aluminium, provides teaching material about beverage cans and organises can collection campaigns aimed at children and young persons. The recycling organisation Recal S.A., which is responsible for collecting and recycling cans, was set up in 2001 together with beverage can producer Can Pack.

In 2003, Ball Packaging Europe established a partnership in Hungary with EAI, the Hungarian environment organisation for beverage cans. Other partners include the beverage can producer Rexam and the international aluminium association EAA Packalu. The aim is to campaign for the collection and recycling of beverage cans and to inform the public about the resource aluminium. EAI focuses on environment education and organises public campaigns intended to increase environment awareness, in particular amongst young persons in Hungary. In this, EAI co-operates with ÖkoPannon, the Hungarian organisation which collects and recycles metal, plastic and other types of packaging.
